4. Reasons why sheath blight is difficult to control

• Planting method. The amount of sclerotia residues in the soil is the basis for the severity of rice sheath blight. The main reasons affecting the amount of sclerotia in the soil: a) Difficulty in crop rotation, land preparation is difficult after changing paddy fields to dry fields, dry crop yields are not high, and benefits are not good, so rice farmers do not want to rotate crops, but rice continuous cropping, resulting in the accumulation of pathogenic bacteria in soil year by year; b)  The field disease source is not cleaned thoroughly. Although most of the rice straw was moved out of the field, it was not completely removed. The diseased rice straw was left in the field without being sterilized and decomposed, which not only caused the accumulation of bacteria and aggravated the disease, but also became a new source of rice sheath blight and an important way to spread;

• Climate factors. High temperature and humidity are the main conditions for the occurrence of sheath blight. Due to different planting density and weather conditions, unified control cannot be achieved;

• Resistance. Sheath blight has occurred for many years, and many compounds have developed relatively obvious resistance, and the control effect has been reduced;

• Different varieties. At present, many varieties are commodity grains that pursue taste, among which there are sensitive varieties;

• Control time. The best control point of sheath blight is the infection rate of about 5%, but this point is difficult to grasp and the control cost is high, so many farmers are unwilling to control it alone.
